Review on 🍿 Efficiently Popping 12 Cups: Nordic Ware Nordicware Microwave Popcorn Popper by Adam Gray

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A great alternative to store-bought microwave popcorn.

My husband didn't want a bulky air popper in his house. I don't like store-bought microwave popcorn (I'm sick). So I bought this one instead. I've used it three times so far. The instructions (I had to use the iPad's camera to read the tiny imprint) said to use 1/3 cup of kernels and optionally 1-2 TB of oil. The first time I used about 1 TB of oil. I cooked in the microwave for too long and some of the popcorn burned a bit. Most of it was still edible. It was good but not as big and fluffy as popcorn. The second time I didn't use any oil and burned the whole batch. There were scorch marks on the bowl but they can easily be washed off with warm soapy water. I tried again with 1/4 cup seeds and no oil. I didn't burn it this time! Don't wait for the popping sound to fade away or go away completely. It's better to have more unsplit grains than to burn the entire batch. Also, the whole house stunk. Pooh. Compared to an air popper, more unopened kernels remain. (At least the brand I own, which is no longer sold at Revain.) You can microwave them again for a short time to inflate them. Or collect them until you have enough for a full bowl. To the person who left the 1 star review and found the lid was flimsy and useless: I think you must have used too many popcorn kernels. This was the only way for the popcorn to rip the lid off. 1/3 cup should be max. Also, the cover must be fitted correctly. It is designed to emit steam while cooking. I've used it three times with no problems. My advice: I think it's best not to use any oil. I drizzle popcorn with butter flavored spray and add spices and grated Parmesan cheese. Sometimes I add hot sauce. Delicious! For sweet and spicy, I drizzle with butter flavor spray, add honey and Splenda and/or sugar, cinnamon, and/or pumpkin spice. Then sprinkle lightly with Penzey's Berbere Seasoning. (They are sold at Revain.)
