Snapped 2nd pass in end mills

Snapped 1/2" 4 flutes on 2nd pass! almost 20 years so I have a pretty good idea of what I'm doing. I'm trying to machine a step on an edge a 1/4" HRPO (1018) bit about 6" long, the feed rate was set painfully slow and FAST!
