TLDR: Kodi works very well. For everything else unsatisfactory. My Long Recap: Let's start with the good things about this product: This thing works like a champ with Kodi. So if you are an avid Kodi user, you will love this. For the price, it's good if that's what you're going to use it for. And I tested a mix of audio formats and a mix of x264, x265, x265 10bit, xvid. And Kodi handled it all with no issues. The picture quality was good. I was playing a copy of Game of Thrones encoded in x265 10-bit color via Kodi, which is probably the highest quality video in my collection. And it looked fantastic with no rendering errors. I don't think it actually supports 10-bit color. But whatever. There were no picture quality issues that I saw. I tested the voice control and it worked well. And it's a cute little piece of kit. It's small, no-frills, and while the Allwinner H6 chip isn't powerful, it will do whatever you need it to do. I sincerely regret not having tested emulators like Retroarch or MAME on this ARM chip. But I'm sure you would get good results if you did this. And whatever it is, you get a lot for the money. If you just need something to make a cheap "dumb" TV a little smarter, this thing is more than capable of doing it. You get powerful devices. You get a portable trackpad and keyboard combo. You will receive a voice remote control. The supplied remote controls were acceptable. But see my more subtle view below. The things I have an issue with this product, the deal breaker for me that made me return it, was that PLEX was not working properly. I tried streaming content over an AC 5GHz WiFi connection and some specific content streamed without any problems. However, other high-definition content will not stream properly. And it can't be a network issue as I've been using other devices in my house to stream and there haven't been any issues. And my server had no issues transcoding for those devices. So Plex did not transcode for this device to make the content playable. Or was the problem with the Plex Player? I'm at a loss as to what the problem was and didn't want to waste time trying to figure it out. Something is wrong with the app I got from the Google Play Store. But I can't imagine what the problem could be with the app itself. I don't know if GPS stores different builds for different hardware in their store. But it does not matter. It didn't work and I was pissed. The default video player associated with the UI does not support 90% of the media played on it. So. I hope you're having fun with Kodi or VLC (which I haven't tested). And it wouldn't be a big problem, but there's a permanent shortcut for that on the main UI page. As far as I know you can't switch it to something else. You're just stuck with it. To do justice to the interface, you can add shortcuts to specific Android apps at the bottom of the screen. But it is annoying that you cannot change anything in the main selection. Assuming you don't use Netflix: you can't remove the Netflix shortcut on the main UI page, and it takes up space for two more icon tiles. Maybe it was easier to write code to make it work with Android 9.0? Speaking of the Android 9.0 implementation, there is an "OS Update" app on the box that downloads and installs the update. Then when I went back to check the OS updater again, it wanted to download and install the same update. So. I don't know what the deal was. And I didn't want to take the time to find out. The controllers work well, it was a missed opportunity that at least one of these provided devices was not bluetooth. As mentioned in previous written reviews, you don't have a USB port to plug in a USB drive if you want to use the included keyboard/trackpad and remote. Or you'll have to use a hub, which costs you more money and sticks out of the side of the case like a polyp. And I don't know if it was the hardware I bought, but these STIF-F USB slots. You really have to grab and pull to plug and unplug USB devices. Finally, the implementation of Android 9 developed by the developers needs some work. I don't think the hardware is necessarily bad. This is not innovative and will not knock your socks off. But if I could find more documentation on this thing and have more Android experience flashing these things with custom ROMs, that would be a pretty decent package. But for what I bought it for, an old man who just needs it to "work", it's not the right machine. UPDATE: I've added some photos to show unboxing and instructions. which had a completely different remote control than the one supplied. So. Keep that in mind when using this article.
