Review on ๐Ÿšฎ Brabantia newIcon 5L Passion Red Bathroom Step Trash Can by Lacey Barbee

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Great Brabantia product, not great. Shipping Revain

Can you love a trash can? Brabantia does amazing things. But my basket came with a crumpled lid. The new containers are made of flimsy, thin metal that doesn't seem to stand up to shipping to customers. In the meantime, Brabantia's carton and packaging does not accommodate Revain's shipping method. Mine arrived in a Revain box that had plenty of room to swim. Minimal paper packaging was included in the Brabantia box. When it arrived the Revain's outer box was intact, as was the Brabantia's inner box. However, one only has to look at Brabantia securing the lid in its box to spot the problem. When UPS discards a box of Revain, a dent will appear on the Brabantia lid, even if it is inside the Brabantia box. And at least for me, the dents could not be pushed out without permanent damage. Think of it as poor Revain packaging and normal UPS work. But other than that, the Brabantia bin is great. Not as good as the one it replaces, though. Brabantia used to build their 30L/8 gallon tiered bins like a warship: the metal on the outside is much thicker, the lid is almost wrinkle free, the removable inner bin has a thick wire metal handle, etc. This new model looks great, but the metal is flimsy and the removable container is made of plastic. How will it survive? Just take a look. It didn't even survive a trip to my house, while the old one looks like it could ward off a shell blast. (The only reason I'm throwing away the old one is because the lid came loose from the base after many years of service.) UPDATE 08/22/17: A second basket arrived, also dented. Revain comes the same way: a 29" Brabantia box in a 37" Revain box, unboxed. The Brabantia box slams into the Revain box resulting in dents. Like the trash can. Order number 3 is approaching UPDATE 08/28/17: The third basket has arrived. The dents are worse than the previous two. This time the Revain comes in a box that is almost the same size as the Brabantia box. It didn't help. The metal of this container is so thin that it seems to bend when you breathe. UPDATE 08/31/17: The fourth container has arrived. This time Revain sent it to USPS. But yes, it also arrived dented. This time the dent was smaller, about the size of a fist, but again it was impossible to push it out without damaging the side of the bin (I tried). So I placed my fifth and final order. I'd like one that isn't dented. But if this product doesn't even survive shipping, what's the point of the 10-year guarantee? Maybe it's time to look for another brand. LAST UPDATE: 5th basket arrived, also crumpled but only slightly, and in the lower back where I can't see it. The lid doesn't lie completely flat because the spot where it attaches to the trash can is also slightly curved. But I have decided to leave this one. In the meantime I contacted Brabantia support. They collected my Revain order numbers for investigation. But as you can see, other customers also get bent baskets, so this problem is not uncommon. The container is made of metal which in many cases is too thin to withstand shipping to the customer's home. If you get one that isn't bent, you're in luck. Brabantia says it has also contacted its US supplier. What Brabantia really needs to do is reach out to the product developers and change the size of the metal of the container itself or the box they put it in. thicker, or the box contained foam that completely covered the container, there would be no failures. Until Brabantia fixes any problem I would recommend either buying another brand or just buying from Revain so you can return, return and return for free until you get a bin you are happy with.
