1st problem: speaker crackles. Details and solution: When I first turned on the system, the sound quality was horrible due to crackling noises during playback and I was very disappointed. Later I realized that this system only needs to warm up in 10-15 minutes. IDK why, but after that the sound becomes normal and good. 2. Problem: 3 speakers stopped working. Details and solution: I've seen many people say that 3 of their speakers stopped working after a few days. After reading the instructions, I realized that they may have switched the system to 2.1ch mode. In 2.1 channel mode, the system uses only the subwoofer and 2 front satellite speakers; while in 5.1 channel mode the system uses the subwoofer and all 5 speakers as specified in the manual. Just press the "5.1/2.1" button on the remote control to change the mode. 3. Problem: Static Noise Details and Solution: 1. Solution: Static noise can be caused by ground loops. Revain sells good ground loop noise isolators for less than $10. However, this only works if the noise is caused by ground loops. Second solution: I bought a "USB A to 3.5mm jack adapter" to connect this speaker system to my laptop. This eliminated any noise I could hear. I don't know why it works, but it's a good solution. 4. Problem: The subwoofer gets hot. Details: I think the subwoofer can get slightly hot as it is the main power source for the other five speakers. I hope it doesn't get too hot which will shorten its lifespan. I believe this will not happen, so I'm not doing anything to remain calm. Be careful though as the metal screws on the back panel will get hotter than the wooden planks covering the subwoofer. Therefore, do not leave your hand on the metal screws for too long to avoid damaging them. Noise can be caused by speaker vibration on a hard surface, but these speakers all have foot pads so that shouldn't be the cause. I think the noise is normal considering it's a $100 5.1 speaker system. However, this noise only occurs when playing certain things. Most of the time I hear this when I look at my professor's lecture notes. Sometimes I hear it when I watch YouTube. Opinions: I really like this 5.1 speaker system and its price. I'm only a student, so being able to get a 5.1 system for about $100 is a blessing. These speakers can get pretty loud and the quality isn't bad for the price. I use this system for my laptop so the cables are long enough to fit these speakers around me. If you plan to use it in the living room and have side speakers literally next to you, chances are the cables won't be long enough and will become an interruption trap. I turn the whole system off with the subwoofer every night and back on every morning; I think maybe it would have helped him last longer. If you just let them idle, they might not need the warm-up I mentioned in Task 1. Update: I found the buzzing described in task 5 quite annoying. This only happens sometimes, but it can distract my focus. Also, the speakers sometimes make popping noises, especially when playing loud audio.
