I simply set this to a light sensitive timer so it would trigger at night and work no matter what the timer is set to. I was pleased to find that when the rope is unplugged from the power source and power is restored by the timer, the light reverts to its previous settings and thus retains its color and pattern when power is removed. This behavior is very important for my use case. I used plastic hooks to hang the rope. The hooks have 0.25 inch space to hold the rope. Because the rope is not 0.24" in diameter as advertised, the 0.14" rope will not fit snugly on the hook and is easily blown away by the wind. I'll probably buy another rope lantern that fits the hook snugly and use this rope around the house. I like the remote control. It's very similar to the LED strip remote that I also have. I found that the remote control doesn't work through glass. The rope is right outside our front door, but the remote doesn't work from inside the house through the door glass, about 10 feet from the sensor in the USB port. When I open the door, the remote control works. This is a good very light rope lamp. The diameter of the tube is good for making the rope thin and flexible, but not good for my .25" hangers.
