The material is a soft polyester that looks like folding ripples along the zipper line of the skirt. There's a shirt slip underneath the skirt attached to the inseam. I can feel and see where every piece of fabric is folded, starts and ends through the skirt. Comfortable fit around my waist. When sit the skirt only shows one thigh where the split stops about mid-thigh so not too revealing. I still recommend carrying a cover of some kind if thr split makes you uncomfortable. The black is not dark dark but it has a bit of of a shine to the black.
