H9505: Excellent noise canceling with excellent build quality

I've been looking for a good quality active noise canceling headphone for noisy environments for a long time. I need extra steam when working in a server room where the fan noise is pretty loud. After some research I came across the Philips H9505 and really liked the design. So I decided to give it a try. Here are some pros and cons: Pros: 1. Really good noise reduction effect, Hybrid ANC function works very well at fan noise reduction. 2. Awareness mode has the right balance of ambient noise without overly amplifying whispers like some other expensive ANC headphones do. 3.Very comfortable headphone padding. A good companion for the whole day. 4. Touchpad works! I'm not a fan of the touchpad at all, but it works like a charm on these headphones! 5. The sound of the melody is strongly shifted towards the bass. I'm impressed with the bass extension, probably due to the 40mm driver. It might be too heavy for my liking, but it works well in noisy environments. 6. Solid construction and great design made of high quality materials. Headband, padding, driver housing, loops, etc. I like the look too, but that can be subjective. Cons: 1. Headphone buttons look like cheap plastic. While the buttons are small and unobtrusive, I mean it's like a Maserati with Chrysler parts on the console. 2. The app doesn't really do anything, hence the lack of ability to personalize the frequency response. A multiband equalizer would be nice. We hope Philips will update the app to support this feature in the future. Overall good headphones, some details could be better but I'm satisfied as is. This will be my workhorse for office use. Edit 6/29/2021 The Philips headphones app now works with my H9505. Now I can switch between different ANC levels. There is also an equalizer adjustment function, which is the most important for me. For some reason the custom equalizer settings in the app are being reset. The setting seems to have been preserved in the headphones, but I'm not entirely sure. Hope this gets fixed soon.

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons
  • No automatic mode
