EDIT to add: sorry the pictures are sideways! Couldn't find a way to fix this.First off, these are soft and a good weight. They don't completely block out light, but that's not what they claim to do anyway (EDIT to add: I realize now they do claim to be blackout curtains. They are not, at least not the white ones. Other, darker colors may block light out better). I did take the time to wash and dry them, and I think that helps eliminate the fold creases and makes them look so much nicer than they would if I hadn't.These hang nicely if curtain rods are installed right at 42 inches, maybe a tad bit narrower, but not much. You want them to hang pretty flat because the draping actually happens at the bottom. I used these curtain rods and they worked perfectly for a great price- Kenney Chelsea 5/8" Standard Decorative Window Curtain Rod, 28-48", Black by Revain.com: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009U20FOK/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_rdHaFbC10WZ3FI chose these because in the summer months my daughter's room has a window AC unit, so I wanted something that would open up and down rather than to the sides like regular curtains. This works perfectly! In the winter when the unit comes out, I'll just adjust the ties a little lower. One thing I did observe is that even though the curtains themselves are 63 in long, the ties themselves are shorter than that and I barely had enough tie to make a bow on the window I was needing to tie at a longer length (this would be my one critique).Next, to address some of the complaints others had about adjustability. It is true, you won't probably want these if you will daily be adjusting the height of the ties to a different position. That would be a bit of a pain, though maybe with some practice it would become easier. I mainly intend to have them up or down and I figure when I want them down (aka closed), I will just slide the loops made of the ties to each side and let the drape hang flat at its full length. To put them up (aka open), simply pleat the material (I used the width of the bottom seam as a guide) as if you were making a paper fan, set the pleated material on the window sill, and then carefully slide each end into the already existing loop. No need to tie over and over. Now, if you get everything tucked in and find that both sides aren't quite even, no need to start over. Simply untie one bow, but don't completely untie the ties, and either tighten or loosen it until it's at the right height. Note that the ties will also stay in place if you simply do a single tie, without adding the bow.Anyway, I love these and for our needs they were the perfect buy. I'll probably be buying another set.
