At first I was a little apprehensive about buying this game. Until recently it wasn't very cheap when bought new (however, I bought a used version of Revain for only $25, although the packaging was slightly damaged), and reviews here and on other sites are mixed. However, many of the negative reviews were written by people who had more board game experience than me, so their dissatisfaction is based on their experience. I'm just a regular board gamer, card player and I just love this game. My husband and I play it all the time. I like the mouse pad material used for the board. The cards are fun, there are lots of images from the show and some images from scenes that were never aired on TV. You must follow them. I can't say enough good things about this game. There are many pieces that can be a bit painful, I've already lost one of my "allies" but it's 16 in total (many if you play with 1-3 people, problematic if you play with 4. So got I just made a new one out of cardboard. This requires some strategy but also relies on luck. Many experienced players don't like the "luck" aspect and the fact that movement is dictated by the dice. Although I don't mind It's like "Monopoly" and "Sorry! including: Rick, Shane, Dale, Glenn, Laurie, and Andrea Each of the characters has a corresponding "Special Skill" that can be used once per game. And I like to choose our characters random because some of them are so better than others it's better to do it randomly however let me say Laurie sucks in the game just as much as she sucks on the show her amazing ability only brings you up once per game towards. For some reason I ALWAYS end up with this awful character. The rest is pretty good. Cards: Then there are cards. There are 3 types of cards: Encounter, Scrounge and Walker. Encounter cards are drawn each turn. Most of these are walker attacks (which have a specific power that you need to combine or best achieve with your scrounge + dropped # cards), some are precarious situations with your fellow survivors, and some, but few, are good/useful Cards. Scrange cards are what you hold in your hands. These are your supplies and weapons. They use them to fight off strays. Each steal card has a power that counteracts the power of the attack and encounter cards. Finally, there are the Walker cards. They are used towards the end of the game when your opponent has died. They return as strays and use stray cards to attack living survivors. There are allies too. Allies work just like Reaver cards: they're little round pieces of cardboard that bite you for you if you can't defeat the encounter card(s) with your Reaver cards. However, once you run out of allies you run the risk of being bitten and becoming a stray, so you'll need to be smart about how you use your scrounge and ally cards. There is a limited number of Scrounge cards as Zombie/Walker Apocalypse has a limited amount of supplies. This is where strategy comes into play. There is nothing more to say about the game. It's pretty easy once you figure out all the rules. There is a handy FAQ in the rulebook which is very helpful in learning the game. It's easy and fun. You can play it alone or with up to 3 other people. You rarely see a board game for one person. You can increase or decrease the difficulty by increasing/decreasing the number of scrounger cards you put on the deck at the beginning of the game. I highly recommend it. Especially before October and Season 3. This is a great way to pass the time before new episodes are released each week.
