I'm using some heatsinks to cool a 1TB SSD that's in a small aluminum case. A pair of heatsinks and small fans keep the SSD cool, almost cold, whereas in the past 10 watts of power would heat the case up to around 60C and heat up the SSD. I connected an SSD to my TV and it didn't work at first because the TV's USBA ports are only 500mA (2.5W) of power and I needed about 4 times more plus forced air cooling. So I connected it through a self-powered hub that provides enough power to run the SSD and the fans and fans are connected to these heatsinks.
