The design of the buckle is really nice and the metal is of good quality. It has a matte finish with glossy black details. I love these new straps with ratchet buckles. As you put it on and thread the end through the buckle, you'll feel it lock into each notch until it's tightened just right. To release, simply pull half of the buckle up (almost like a lever) and the end slides out. Another nice feature is the ability to fold down the locking tab, remove the buckle, cut the strap to length, and then reattach it. Of course you can reduce it as much as you like, but never to the level it was originally.
