Works very well, software is crap but mostly works

I have to admit after initial concern and frustration the thing does exactly what it's supposed to do. Has been working for a week with no problems. I've given it a reserved DHCP address in the router, which never gets in the way of these things. You tend to get confused when the IP address changes and the StarTech support chat advises not to use the DHCP period, but that's stupid. There seems to be a lack of live chat support but they are trying. As I said, the software is total crap. It looks like the worst kind of Windows hobbyist junk from the last century. It's also buggy, overly complex, and seems to lose all of its virtual COM port mappings every time it leaves memory. Yes indeed; you have to reconfigure the thing every time. It also randomly warns that it should be run as administrator. Tried and had no effect. Strangely, the autoplay setting in the first menu seems to trigger this order. There is currently a hanging warning window that cannot be closed, but this does not affect the operation of the COM port. Speaking of the COM port, it works fine on Windows 10 and hasn't broken yet. We'll see how it goes, but for now 5 stars. UPDATE: Ran like a champ for three months. Then it's time to finally update Windows 10 and restart your computer. Wasn't expecting this because of the incredibly poor user interface. After restarting the computer, open the application to (obviously) not show any devices or COM port mappings. But then. I looked at my alphanumeric character and it updated. Wonderful! Closed the crappy interface and don't worry about the cause until the next reboot. I hope it set itself up as a service, but it's hard to tell from all the weird messages I've received trying to set this option. So despite -10000 UI stars still 5 stars. :)
