Definitely better than unamplified
I already have an antenna that doesn't require connection to a power source and it seems to work on very close stations but half the other channels don't see it. The image quality is noticeably better with it and all the channels I was able to scan (about 50 in my case) work great with the HD image. I should also mention that I put it right behind my TV. As it's already performing fantastically, I'm excited to see how much better it will be when mounted outdoors on a roof, for example.
