I was excited to try the AHC Aqua Essential Face Mask; I've been pulling a lot of all-nighters lately, so my skin has been looking as "stressed and tired" as I am. While these cotton masks are a great idea in concept, I found they were a bit lacking in execution. Each mask is generously infused with "essence" and comes folded in an airtight pouch that is shaped like a serum bottle. When I first tore open the packet, the mask came out sopping wet; it was slippery to handle and left my hands feeling a bit sticky. I had some difficulty unfolding the mask.since it was so wet, the cotton fabric was sticking to itself, so it took a while to get it unfolded and smoothed onto my face. The openings around the eyes, nose, and mouth seemed overly large; I'm not sure if they were cut too big, if my features are too small, or (more likely) if the fabric stretched and/or tore when I was struggling to unfold it. As a result, there was very little coverage under my eyes, on the sides of my nose, across my upper lip, or around the corners of my mouth. There was more than enough "essence" in the sheet for me to spread it around on the uncovered areas with my fingertips, but it seemed like it would have been more effective if the sheet fit more closely around my nose and mouth.I left the mask on for 10 minutes (the package recommends 10-20 minutes). While it did feel cool and soothing on my skin, it was also sopping, dripping, and drooping, so there was no forgetting it was there. When I removed the mask, my skin was still covered in a layer of slippery fluid. I tried massaging it into my skin (per the directions), but it felt a bit sticky and didn't absorb well.and ended up feeling a bit tacky, shiny, and tight when it eventually dried.Once I rinsed off the remaining sticky surface layer and patted my face dry with a towel, I have to admit that my skin felt softer, smoother, and better hydrated than before. The ingredients in the essence do seem to be effective.I have to give AHC credit for that!In the end, though this product delivers good results, the process of applying it was a bit of a hassle and I'm not sure it was worth the effort for me. I still have four masks remaining from the original five-pack, so I'll give it another try and will update my review if I have a better experience the next time around.
