Very good velcro closure, trainer/boot hook at top of shoe/boot keeps cover in place. A strap under a boot/sneaker/boot is fine, but better with leather. It's best if you have shoes with a "hollow" on the sole just in front of the heel to keep them in place. If your shoes have flat soles, like sneakers, the strap will move under your foot. But hey, it's still a good price. Any creature that bites, stings, or crawls seems to me to fall below my knees while working in the garden or on a hike. Especially in warm weather when you want to wear shorts or capri pants - long pants of any kind are just too hot. It doesn't make you sweat, but great coverage. I haven't encountered a snake yet, so I can't comment on that yet. I bought a larger size for fall and winter when I wear longer/thicker pants.
