Review on 🌩️ Intermatic AG3000 HVAC Surge Protective Device - Universal 120/240 VAC, Color by Andrew Cramer

This item came as expected and was new in packaging. Intermatic has a long history of manufacturing Surge Protection Devices (SPD). This device consists of two 150V clamping devices in a NEMA 4x enclosure. It is designed to be connected to two "hot" legs (standard split phase in residential applications) and ground. It is not designed to protect the neutral wire as most household condensing units don't have a neutral wire anyway. This is not an EMF or interference filter, it is simply a surge protector. One of the reasons I bought this device is because it is listed in the new standards (3rd edition) and is listed as a Type 1 and Type 2 device. It also has a 10Ga cable instead of a small one 14 ga cable that others have use. Specs aren't the highest, but it's difficult to directly compare 3rd Edition standards to previous SPD/TVSS ratings. Other comparable devices are the Supco SCM150 and ICM516 units. My HVAC condenser isn't a computer controlled heat pump, but it still has advanced controls that cost hundreds of hundreds to replace if they blow up. So it's worth doing something simple to try and stop any spikes/spikes from damaging my capacitor. Intermatic also offers a $7,500 3-year connected hardware warranty (which is just as difficult to prove and maintain as others). Side). It's difficult to really test these devices as I'm not in an area that requires a lot of hits. If this unit blows up (or somehow fails) and my HVAC system still works, I'll say it works and get a replacement, but until there's a problem I'll assume it's doing its job. UPDATE: Literally 2 years later, the green light went out. This means that the device has somehow failed and no longer offers full protection. I went to Intermatic's website, filled out a few forms, received an email, faxed them the information and the Amazon receipt without speaking to anyone. I received a new device free of charge within a week. No device damage was found.
