They are excellent for children who have already learned to drink through a straw. I would not recommend them for children who are too young for this. Our 2 year old squirts all over the place when he tries to use his so some preparation is required. My 5 year old son loves it, it attaches easily to his backpack and doesn't spill when fully closed. If you leave it open and turn it upside down, it will slowly flow out at the top, so be careful. They're dishwasher safe so cleaning should be easy enough, but I hand washed one to see how difficult it would be. It was pretty easy if you have a straw cleaner and a bottle brush. They're pretty sturdy overall and my kids love them, they're great for travel and I would recommend them to active youth. I send my son to school with him so far so good!
