Ok, this is MUCH better than I expected. I will only be using it with two laptops and I can see that some people have had issues with the middle slot (which isn't adjustable) but for my needs this thing is great. The thumbscrew is actually threaded through the base so turning it will pull the base in or out and it's pretty well threaded which adjusts the width at a good speed - no feeling of over tightening and no fear that she weakens herself . The base is molded and has enough weight not to tip over (at least on 13-inch MacBooks). Absolutely recommendable, I hope the manufacturer doesn't change it too much in the future or make it cheaper.
