9 months later Update: Still works great, still worth every penny. No leaks, I use it 5-6 times a week. Also water and energy efficient. Make time to clean it monthly - filters, door and hoses. Helps keep your food fresh. It also doesn't hurt to run an empty load with some dishwasher detergent every few months. This place includes the lack of a dishwasher. It's a luxury I was willing to give up in favor of a larger living space. I now somewhat enjoy washing the dishes, I find it meditative and satisfying, but it takes a lot of time. Especially when my partner and I both work full time and often have late dinners from 8pm to 10pm and then just don't feel like doing the housework anymore so things can pile up. There are many similar units priced closer to $200. range but most of them were brands I had never heard of, didn't have LED displays and many are just plain aesthetically bland. We decided it was worth going a little bit more with a brand we knew we liked, with a display and something that wasn't all white or all black. Very glad we did! We've had this thing for about 6 weeks now and use it about 5 times a week. Our kitchen has never been cleaner, and without planning, my partner and I naturally worked on a 50/50 laundry because it's so easy. Let me tell you, we're still regularly amazed at what a life-changing experience it was. A clean kitchen so long ago, less stress around the house and the cleanest dishes we've ever had. I am very careful to wash my dishes thoroughly and I was impressed with the quality of the laundry. Now I'll give a piece of practical advice to anyone who has one or is on the market: - These countertops are definitely heavy. especially if you are a small person. So I highly recommend either having dedicated shelf space for it, or getting a cart on wheels that you can use to fill the unit at the bottom and move it into place when needed. This comes from a pretty tall guy who's worked as a handyman more than once. The hose that connects to the sink requires a little attention after each wash to make sure it's completely drained. We typically place a large bowl on the floor and then tilt the hoses at just the right angle to allow gravity to work until the water stops flowing out. Speaking of maybe 1-2 minutes work at most. - I've read reports of leaks from these blocks. We noticed a leak, but it was related to my point above. Due to the movement of the hoses during draining, the connection on the back of the device came loose and some water escaped. Now every time I drain the hoses I just check the connection and tighten if necessary and there have been no leaks since. I've tried different levels of dishwashing and in general I'd say most things require a minimum rinse cycle. I quickly search under the sink for heavily soiled items, especially when onions or other foods are really sticking. In addition to rinsing, I think it's important to make sure that the way you load the washing machine doesn't block heavily soiled items. The instructions give some general spacing guidelines, and while I still manage to cram more than what's suggested into this thing, I make sure anything really dirty has enough room for water to flow comfortably around it can. Large cymbals may not fit in this item, at least not in a cymbal stand. I find the 10-10.5 inch range to be ideal. If your plates are larger, you may need to wash them with a lighter load and tilt them. After doing this once or twice, the end result was still nice, clean dishes. .This is one of the best purchases I've made in the last 5 years.
