Review on Globe Electric Charlie Outdoor Indoor Ceiling Light- Oil 🌍 Rubbed Bronze, Clear Seeded Glass Shade – 1-Light Semi-Flush Mount by Bailey Brown

Revainrating 2 out of 5

I really wanted to like it. But no

For the past few months I have been looking for recessed ceiling lights to replace the main lighting around the house. When I stumbled upon this light I was too happy to try it out as both the style and the price were right for me (or at least the price was). Unfortunately this lamp did not fit me and was promptly returned. BENEFITS: 1. Beautiful style with a clear glass lampshade through which you can see the bulb. (Great if you're using custom bulbs like Edison bulbs.) 2. Beautiful modern style at a price that won't break the bank. The flashlight is packed very well in a box by the manufacturer to reduce the chance of damage before it reaches you. CONS: 1. Lighting - this lamp does the main job it was created for so terribly. The lamp itself may look attractive, but its aesthetic is also its worst enemy. Because the fixture is solid aluminum and nearly 5 inches tall, the light only enters through the glass dome at the very bottom of the fixture. Perhaps this problem could have been avoided if there were two cartridges for two light bulbs, and here there is only one. Although I'm still not sure if that would really make a difference given the height of the fixture blocking so much of the light emitted. However, I suspect this issue may not be an issue for those with high or vaulted ceilings (or those aiming for "shabby" lighting). The included "instructions" are practically non-existent. Besides reminding the installer to turn off the circuit breaker, "instructions" consist of a single drawing with no sequential steps or written process. I didn't have much trouble understanding the graphics to complete the installation and I personally found the process to be fairly easy. But someone with no electrical wiring knowledge or experience might find the setup a bit disappointing based on what is provided separately. (Note: While the process is simple, remember that having a second pair of hands will make the wiring process easier.) FYI: The glass dome is bonded to the aluminum on the inside. If you need to change a lightbulb or remove dead insects, you will need to remove the light from the bracket to do this. Neither good nor bad - all you need is a screwdriver and a brain cell or two. Only information that I think might be useful to someone.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • For the old
