TLDR; Initially, I was very excited about this GIGABYTE X299 AORUS GAMING 7 PRO board. But then there were quite a lot of minuses to deduct 2 stars. --- -------------- ---------------------= Has quite a few internal SATA ports so you can theoretically connect 8 internal drives. (But also read the cons.) = Also has x3 (or possibly x2) internal M.2 ports for faster drives. = The board is relatively small and all ports/connectors are placed quite reasonably. = Comes with lots of screws and stands, straps and velcro. = Supports USB-C ports, which is nice. = Has many manual overclock settings in BIOS. (But I can't tell you more since I don't do OC and the names of these settings were quite confusing.) CONS: --------------------- -- - ------------------------------= Main Feature -- does not support hardware disk encryption with latest Samsung 970 PRO and 970 EVO M. 2 NVMe! Booooooo!= Gigabyte customer support is terrible. I had to wait 2 days to get a formulaic answer that didn't tell me anything I didn't already know. I was trying to determine if the board supports hardware disk encryption with Samsung NVMe drives and first got an excuse to contact Samsung, then a link to an outdated Samsung Magician manual, and in the end they just gave up. and told me that he probably doesn't support her. = When I set up Secure Boot in UEFI/BIOS, setting up a public key for Secure Boot was so cumbersome that I had to google it. Then when I managed to set it up, the default public key I had to use said in the title "DO NOT TRUST - AMI Test PK" :) See screenshot. You're kidding, gigabytes! Did you even reinstall your BIOS after your developers finished with it? = UEFI/BIOS in general is awkward, the mouse pointer is quite unsteady and the whole UI is illogical. Overall, it doesn't even come close to matching the usefulness of the ASUS BIOS!= Although it has 8 internal SATA ports, some of them are shared with the M.2 ports in certain configurations. In the worst case (if you have old SATA drives connected to M.2 ports) you might only have 4 SATA ports. Once you have all your RAM, cards, CPUs, etc. plugged in, it's difficult to do anything, especially if you need to re-plug something (due to the smaller size of the board). = This BIOS and Windows 10 don't really work well together. For example, I disabled hibernation in the BIOS, but Windows still lets me enter hibernation as if I hadn't done anything. = POST cannot be accelerated. It just takes too long after a reboot. Usually there is a setting in BIOS for faster POST, but not in this case.
