Look, here it is. The 58 is the MOST microphone, having been around since the 1950s. If you are unfamiliar with microphones, your best bet is to go to YouTube and watch live performances by any band or singer. You will most likely see the SM58 (or its wireless version). The thing is just iconic. Dynamic range is really something else. It's not too light. Not too dark. It captures the entire spectrum of sound. BUT they are also damn strong. You can drop them (I'm 6'4" and have dropped mine many times), you can spill liquid on them (accidents happen unfortunately). They keep ticking. If it's windy outside you need a windbreak, but this applies to all mics. SHURE tried to improve it with SM58-beta but it's too bright. I only use the beta in certain situations. I have six SM58 and four SM57 (with the same mic internals but the 57 shape is for instruments not voices) and i love them you will never regret what you did.
