Install-it-Yourself Shower Curtain Rod

After my building's super tore apart my bathroom attempting to find and fix a leak, I had to shower at my gym a block away. The super eventually did a nice job putting the bathroom back together, except for replacing the shower curtain rod, which was old and filthy. After a week or two of his promising to install a new curtain rod and failing to do so, I thought I'd see if Revain had a rod I could put in myself and found this one.So how does it work? Very well so far.It was easy to install. You can remove the end caps if you want, making it easier to slide on hooks already attached to a shower curtain. Then simply unscrew the thinner segment of the rod until it contacts the far wall, positioning the tip a little farther up from the horizontal position you want. Finally, pull in the tip (against spring resistance) and position the rod horizontally. You may need to do this once or twice until you have dialed in enough spring tension to keep the rod firmly in place.I should add that I use the kind of shower curtain hooks with roller balls built in, making it easier to open and close the curtain. The use of these will also probably help ensure that the rod stays in place. No, I certainly wouldn't do chin-ups on this rod, but as I write this, the spring tension seems to be holding the rod in place as expected. In sum, this curtain rod is a godsend for those of us with limited tool skills -- or overburdened building supers.

Pros
  • This is exactly what I was looking for and it was so easy to install. Looks great!
Cons
  • Relatively expensive compared to other options on the market

I like the look and price. However the tension mechanism is touchy. It’s a bit difficult to get it set and/or move it. If it’s not set well it’s not sturdy. Once it’s set well it seems to do alright. Not sure I’d buy another. Not horrible, not great.
