20 Gauge The metal gives it a solid premium -Weight. The blades are firmly riveted together with a hexagonal screw. It looks like you can use an M5 Allen key to adjust how tight and how easily the blades slide between each other. Out of the box I find it tight enough to separate one of the blades while not allowing the others to move freely. The marking is legible. It may be sharper or a more contrasting color, but with this type of tool, the red, yellow, and green pretty much tell you what you need to know. After a few measurements, you'll probably remember the measurements anyway. The paint seems to be somewhat scratch-resistant. My blade tips, however, carried paint from the blades in front of him. So I'm not sure how durable the coating is. Overall I think this is a great tool for a quick visual check of brake pad wear.
