It's leather but the color is dyed maybe dyed but on mine I could see where they did the stain. It's not a big deal but when I wear it everyday it started to bother me so I treated it with steel wool and water. It looks better now and hopefully the skin can darken with normal wear. But it seems to be very robust. It's a little stiff and looks like it needs a bit of break-in, but I think it's good. This is real leather so it will take time to adjust as it should. In the army we softened leather boots by rubbing shaving cream on them. I might try this if they don't cave in naturally. The leather straps that hold your watch are a bit flimsy, so keep that in mind. It feels like they're going to break if I don't condition them.
