The kids wanted a camera to record YouTube videos and I wanted something to shoot videos for grandparents abroad where we can't go because of the pandemic. I can finally check it out now that the kids have actually left it alone long enough for me to test it too. After much research I decided to use it and it does a lot more than I expected. Video and photo quality is excellent (yes, it captures good high-resolution footage too). I was surprised that it also works as a webcam when connected to a computer via the included USB port (you can choose between charging mode, USB mass storage or webcam mode).
