at high speed the noise is closer to the desktop. At low fan speeds, performance is acceptable and less noisy. In general, the three fans are quiet, but not quite. Not specifically designed for older 17" MacBook Pros, but will work with them. Just make sure you move your laptop around all the time. I really hate using a USB port on my laptop to connect my fan system and using a USB power adapter solves this problem. The Cooler Master NotePal U3 PLUS is really light and the aluminum finish is good but not great, looks pretty but not fantastic. However, the truth is that the aluminum construction dissipates heat effectively. In any case, the aluminum and minimalist design is way better than the horrible plastic paraphernalia of gaming laptop coolers, which I think are just big fans inside. This baby in silver fits perfectly with MAC's aesthetic working environment. Definitely for me, and I appreciate Cooler Master's efforts to create a laptop cooler that doesn't cost much more, but doesn't look or feel like a kid's toy.
