On arrival, the battery was almost empty and the device was unusable. We had to buy a new $5 battery (yes, not cheap) to have a working thermometer (from other reviews this is a very common problem). The instructions are one of the 3 worst I've ever seen, they number things in the instructions (but they have words on the device) and never explain what the numbers mean. but if the battery actually works, everything is easy to understand. I think at this point all the people complaining about illegible instructions had batteries that essentially didn't work. We haven't had a thermometer long enough to know if a few people who mentioned it burns batteries are right. The font size of the inscriptions on the device is also small, you cannot see them without a magnifying glass (the LCD is legible). I think there must be better ways.
