This product says 6-12 yrs, but realistically, you need an adult involved in each step, if only because the instructions are extremely vague. "Mounting the reducer into the box" is step 1. There are pictures, but they're not color coded or exact to specifications, so unless you are familiar with these types of projects, it'll be a little difficult to determine what goes where. Also, most of the pieces come from a single plastic mold sheet and require punching out as well as carefully trimming off any lingering plastic burrs (yes, that's a necessary step and in the instructions). My son managed to snap apart one of the tire treads trying to punch it out, so I ended up gluing it on the wheel. Works fine.Overall, the rover is well designed and securely snaps together. We built it on a cloudy day, so my son was thrilled that it has backup batteries so we could still test it out.
