Paperback but definitely not waterproof. Bought these to walk on our dog's bed because over the years she gets up there and sometimes pees a little in her sleep. They worked when something happened, but after washing they don't look waterproof at all. We have a big dog but she doesn't pee in huge puddles. I would suggest a quarter cup or less anytime and it pulls right through. My kids peed a TON more than that when they were babies and it would NOT help us at all. We would clean the mattresses regularly. Do not buy.
