Fits my 2005 Chevrolet Colorado even with the trunklid closed. A few installation tips as the instructions aren't good: - On ALL trucks, when installing the plastic center posts (with rubber ends) be aware that the tube holes on all trucks are different sizes towards the inside and outside edges. 4 halves. This is done to accommodate the wider and thinner metal rods as that part closes the seam. Make sure all the large holes are facing out and the small holes are facing the center of the carriage/bracket. I suggest leaving all fasteners loose and then tightening everything *after* you've installed the extension to the body. At least on my truck, the position of the bracket is determined by the fact that the tailgate closes when the body extension is closed. AWAY. Be sure to leave a small 1/16"-1/8" gap for the overlap when the tailgate is closed. I didn't like the template, so I suggest leaving it in the manual. Instead, attach the loose brackets to the bed extension with pins and rubber inserts. Then use the extension extension to push the brackets against the header deck wall. Place a few 1-2 inch objects under the outer plastic posts as washers to raise the brackets high enough. You want the outer plastic struts to be parallel to your closed tailgate so the distance from top to bottom is about the same. Once you have it in the desired location, carefully open the back door so you can wrap the blue tape around the attachment point. Remove the bed extension and separate the brackets from it. Bring one of the staples to the outline of the blue tape and use a thin marker to mark the location of the holes. Repeat on the other side and drill holes. Now you can drill through your truck's body and install the brackets without fear of them coming loose. With the Colorado/Canyon mechanism, the safety latch does not require round pins. You can easily remove them from the aluminum plates on the bands. I used a file to bevel the edges on one side of my aluminum panels to make it easier to slide into the closed latch. Despite what I've read in other reviews, the straps work very well in my application.
