It's loud enough but requires a phone to be plugged into its base. We had the impression that it also rings if you plug it into a telephone socket. no To do this, the phone must be connected to this device before it rings. We didn't expect that. In our case, the only phone we connected to this unit was the base station, which actually gave us a louder ringer (for increased audibility), but it wouldn't ring if it was just plugged into one phone jack without the other . The phone is also connected to this device.
