Edited Add: This model is NOT THERMOSTATIC CONTROLLED. I answered some of the questions above because I thought they were for a model we later bought that has a thermostat. The same heater is available with thermostat control. It should be clarified that this is a hand heater with no thermostat control. You have another model that we offer for exchange. Now we freeze in anticipation of a new one. :( Edit to add: We traded it in for the one with thermostat control and are very happy with it. Initially we were very unhappy because we had to wait five days in the freezing cold for the new one here (exchanged Thursday , had to be delivered Tuesday wait) This replaces our 20 year old DynaGlo heater of the same type and is really very warm in the room. These are good heaters, just manual operation would definitely not work on this one. I gave this other model five stars - it is, that I'm still keeping one star because I don't know if this will be helpful to anyone as you always have to remember to turn it off or it just keeps running and consuming gas.
