Need to tighten if you want to keep them.
Mine stood for about 3 days when a not very strong wind blew and the strings snapped. The little balls at the end came loose. I put them back on and after a day or two the strings broke again. I took them off. They never made it to Christmas! There were 2 different sets that happened to both at different times.
