My friend broke my 10 year old toaster trying to clean it. I bought these as a replacement. At first I thought someone forgot to put the toaster in the box as it was too light. Then I discovered that the toaster actually had the same light. Then I realized that you have to wiggle the lever, hold it, and curse it for a while to keep it down. After these efforts one gets a good toast. However, today I got a bagel stuck in the bottom position. You can remove the entire toaster from the rack by pulling the lever. So the instinct, of course, is to hold the toaster down, resulting in severe finger burns because someone (surprise!) didn't think to put an insulating lid on the toaster.
