I abuse pepper grinders, I actually use them. I went through a good six or seven, then bought this at a hardware store, then gave it back to my dad as a gift through Revine. They work fine. The dial at the bottom lets you choose the granularity of the pepper, from fine dust to chunks. However, buyers beware, you will buy more peppers, but if this becomes a problem, find your nearest Asian market or supermarket where you can buy a good quality, inexpensive product. I use Kirkland peppercorns in these and have no problem as I've read that large peppercorns in them can be problematic.
