My wife needed a countdown timer for her physical therapy exercises. It looks bigger in the product photo than it actually is. I thought it was metal too, but it's white plastic. However, it is a decent clock/timer with a large LCD display. As others have written, the tiny manual is poorly translated from Chinese to English and the fine print is not easy to read. It seems that the "Mode" button doesn't cycle through all the different modes (alarm, clock, timer). , countdown), and accessing the "timer" (countdown) function is a bit cryptic - it requires a start/stop or reset/reset combination, and I don't think I really understand what that is. But once there, pressing the stop button and then the clear button resets the current time, which is just what my wife needs. Unfortunately, accidentally touching the 'mode' button puts the 'timer' into 'countdown' or some other mode, which frustrates my wife. If I can get her to keep her fingers off the mode button, that should work fine for her needs. I haven't used the alarm feature and I'm not entirely sure how to access the many alarm settings it's supposed to have. In fact, we only need them for the countdown (timer) function. The beep, as others have written, is nice and loud. The LCD display will dim when the battery needs to be replaced. Uses 1 x AAA which is not included.
