I think these colors go very well together. For some reason lavender looks gray in my photos, but it's really just very lavender in color with no shades of grey. These colors worked because they didn't mix or get muddy like other Tulip sets I've bought. I'm not sure if these are colors, or I'm just trying not to oversaturate or mix colors. The color of the Aegean that looks gray in stock photos is actually a beautiful sea green. It's like army green and turquoise get together and have a baby, this baby is called the Aegean. I am satisfied with this kit. I only left the color on for an hour because I heard it makes the colors more pastel. And I wanted softer tie color. To be honest I can't tell the difference in this strategy. The turquoise and purple are as vibrant as the turquoise and purple I've left for 12-24 hours on previous paint projects. I've been tying shirts with my kids all summer, and one recommendation I can give is that you soda wash the fabric before dyeing it. Buy a pound of this from Revain for about $8, put the whole pound in a bucket of mop water and leave your shirts in there for 30 minutes. Take out the shirts, wring them out completely and dye the fabric immediately while it is still damp. I swear soda makes the colors so much brighter! In my first tie dye project I didn't use soda and my colors came out very dull. Almost like that tie-dye shirt you've been wearing for 15 years. It's just kind of cool. Soda really works, and I honestly don't know how, but the difference is noticeable. I've also soaked shirts in vinegar after dyeing and rinsing, but the vinegar doesn't help set or preserve the colors. This is a futile step. My shirts come alive and stay that way after many washes whether I "fix" the end product with vinegar or not! Have fun! The swirl pattern is the simplest. Crumple is cool, but you have to be careful not to mix the colors when you paint all over. I strategically placed the color throughout but tried not to overlap the colors. A little overlap is fine, but too much will make the final product one big blob of mixed colors. Sounds cool except the colors aren't what you bought. Fuchsia and green somehow make a dark, dirty purple. Turquoise and magenta result in a dark blue violet. It's best to try a swirl or stripe pattern that keeps the colors separate.
