Review on ๐Ÿ’ป Apple Mac Mini 2020 Tiny-Desktop, M1 Chip, 256GB SSD, 8-core Apple Graphics, macOS, Silver by Mateusz Trzmiel แ Œ

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The product is really good, Im glad I bought it.

The sensations are twofold, my expectations did notcomincide with reality, the marketers served everything deliciously, but in reality the dish was raw. In some places you feel like a beta tester, I did not expect this from apple. This does not fit with the ideology of apple at all, everything should be simple, intuitive, not noticeable and work out of the box. It seems that here is the only honest review that describes a whole bunch of problems that almost everyone has. On the other hand, now is a great opportunity to take a fairly powerful mac very cheaply. This is the cheapest device in the line and it is really powerful for this money, in previous lines on Intel only half-dead typewriters were available for this money. And on this M1 you can easily work with photos, videos and music, program, learn and have fun. For 5-7 years, its power is enough for the eyes. In general, it works quickly and smoothly. 4K video can be edited without proxy files, and almost without brakes, HD just flies. Safari has become unrealistically fast, sites load instantly, it feels like 2-3 times faster than chrome. Large PSD layouts open instantly. Office documents of any size, commplex excel tables - quickly and smoothly. It is extremely rare to find any friezes, and this despite the fact that they work at 4K resolution. At 27 inches, 2K should be generally perfect (it's a pity there won't be enough space on the screen). If your tasks are typical, then most likely you will not encounter many problems. But if you have your own methods of work that differ from the generally accepted ones, then there will be problems. You may have to change your habits :) It is hoped that the current problems will be fixed in ates, but so far nothing has been fixed. The Big Sur 11.1 ate partially solved the problem with Bluetooth, but other errors remained. In total, itโ€™s definitely not worth changing the averagecomnfigurations of poppies 18-20 years old to M1, but you can buy in addition. But for those who have long wanted a poppy, but there was not enough money for normal power - this is a good chance to take a powerful car for sane money.

Pros
  • - Silent It keeps the cooler speed at about 1700, it has never been raised higher, at these speeds there is complete silence. - Cold It does not heat up even when editing a video, it was possible to heat up a little when synchronizing a large number of small files with the cloud. Yes, and then warmed up to 32 gr. Total. - Powerful Pulls any tasks, it seems impossible to load it so that it starts to slow down. - Small You can put or hang it anywhere, you can take it with you on vacation or wear it to work :) - Apps for iOS and iPad work Please note that not all applications are in the App Store, many developers hide versions for iPhone on Mac OS, so you will not use all the applications that are installed on your phone. But those that are - work without problems. - Apps for Intel work fine On the ARM architecture, they run through the emulator, but this happens imperceptibly and I did not see any problems. All OK.
Cons
  • - Not as powerful as expected. Basically, it is compared with the Macs of previous generations on Intel. Compared to them - yes, powerful, but there are other PCs. I compare with i7-3770K / SSD / 32GB DDR3 / GTX 1660 and in many tasks I do not see a speed increase. - Software bugs Hangs when working with network drives, reboots when editing and saving files to a network or cloud drive, communication with BT devices is interrupted, errors with sleep mode. - Bugs in background apps under load Apparently, on the new architecture, active applications can take resources from background applications, and this causes unexplained troubles to appear in background applications under heavy loads. For example, the music stops and the history and playback queue are erased. Hotkeys and gestures bound through third-party software are disabled (hello Logitech). After 5-10 minutes everything starts working again. - Cuts USB speeds The speed of external SSDs via USB-A and USB-C is no more than 370 MB / s - this is 3 Gb / s instead of the declared 5 Gb / s, the same drives on a MacBook with Intel and on a PC operate at speeds of about 510 MB / s. - Only 2 Thunderbold ports The Intel version has 4 ports, which is optimal in my opinion. For normal use, at least one more TB3 port is missing: 1 - monitor, 2 - monitor, 3 - SSD and 4 port in reserve. Here you have to suffer with 2 ports. - Not all resolutions are available with HDMI connection On 4K 32-inch monitors, the most conveniently scaled resolution is 3008x1692, it is available only when connected via TB3. - At 4K resolution, the interface sometimes twitches Noticeable in the animations of Launchpad and Mission Control, not critical, but I would like smoothness everywhere. - No configurations with a 10Gb network card - No space gray color - Windows installation is not yet available Perhaps this will be fixed next year, it seems that work is underway on this. But not now.
