Maybe the straps are generic or maybe they're just repackaged in bulk from Eureka parts. Most likely, Eureka buys things like belts and pulleys from some specialized companies that make them, so the packaging might not matter. The straps I purchased have worked a reasonable amount of time on a 2010 Eureka, so I have no reason to complain. Here are a few installation tips that may prove helpful to those of us who have experienced disappointing belt life, and they apply to comparable Hoover models as well. 1) Check that the striker bar rotates freely. Yes, the thing is quite a hassle to clean, but if it doesn't spin freely, the belt will suffer. I have family members with long hair in my house, and the hair inevitably winds up tight on the pole - sometimes I had to cut it off the pole with a sharp knife. A drop of oil or some white grease before assembling the metal ends won't hurt either (just a drop! otherwise the grease will show up on your mats) - but the main thing is to keep the ends of the bearings clean. 2) Pay special attention to the twist of the belt. He can only go in one direction. Turn the vacuum cleaner upside down so you can see the floor. Before you install the beater shaft with the new belt, note that there is a small protrusion in the way the belt goes to the metal motor pulley. The top of this support is concave and seems to keep the tape from flapping. Make sure the part of the strap closest to the pin aligns with the concave top of this pin when you attach the strap. 3) Finally, do not stretch the belt too much. Sure, it feels like it would take a three-armed gorilla to get the hammer back with a new strap. The idea is to keep the belt at optimal tension with some "overstretching" (did you know that rubber actually compresses when heated?) - it's a narrow window so be careful not to overstretch, or even the best hard rubber straps will start to tear. I learned it the hard way.
