I didn't even buy it for environmental reasons, it just works great. My main gripe with regular floss is that it's always slick/waxed and it's more about gliding over dirt than scraping it off. This yarn is perfect - very slightly abrasive and absorbent so it actually grabs the dirt. Thin enough to fit between tight spaces and thick enough to provide good coverage. However, the biodegradability is a huge bonus! The metal body is by far the best option; Received a glass for the first time and it broke when I dropped it on the counter
