My old Pioneer DVD recorder was too slow for my needs despite being a great workhorse for the last 3 years. So I was looking for something faster. SONY DRU840A fully met my requirements. It's fast no doubt, it's also very quiet, and for the price I paid ($42) it can't get any better. Just a warning to buyers. If you already have a DVD burner installed on your PC and you're using XP Pro, after installing a second DVD burner for some reason, the operating system gets confused and stops reading the CD-R, although writing it is no problem. But the problem is not with the DRU840A. I believe that you will most likely notice this problem once you install 2 DVD burners on your XP Pro computer. I can't get rid of it, so as a workaround I transfer the data from my CD-R to a flash drive and use it on my PC.
