Poor workmanship, the leather should go all the way to the tip and the rubber covers the leather, not just stitched together. Although I'm happy with this pair of boots since I've worn them for 1 year as expected, I wear them normally but what I'm not happy with and I think people who have them and/or are thinking of buying them know have to. This is the first pair of steel toe boots I've bought with a rubber toe guard built into the boot. Usually the leather covers the steel toe but I have a pair, the rubber is stitched to the leather and the leather does not extend around the steel toe area if you damage near the stitching the rubber will start to tear even if the Seams do not unravel and the inner lining and leather are exposed, which separate from the rubber toe guard.
