I don't know why so many USB-C adapters don't work with older (2017) MacBooks via USB-C ports. We have Ethernet/USB hubs that work great with our old Macbook Retina and other hubs that don't work. We found this Wavlink hub to be ideal as in addition to the two USB ports there is an HDMI port for HD video and an RJ45 port for wired Ethernet. The latter was the most important for us as the old Macbook is used for work and needs a very stable hard internet connection. Unfortunately, Wavlink doesn't work for us. We spent a whole day troubleshooting Apple, countless online forums, and the sellers and manufacturers of this product. The manufacturer sent us a link to update the driver. Still does not work. And we don't like it when unnecessary software hangs on our machines. But we appreciate that they were willing to help. However, be aware that this fantastic compact docking station may not work with your Macbook if you require a fixed internet connection. We never tested the HDMI video output, but the USB ports work AND the hub powers the Macbook (another important point for us). But without internet access, this hub had to be returned to the seller.
