I bought a heated faux lambswool cat house and put the whole cat house in a fully insulated kennel to protect it from the weather and the cat can't get in. Each piece is between an inch and an inch and a half long. Putting it down will take off some dust, but once it settles, even if you hit it, you won't be able to see it.
