I was looking for an analogue style watch (old-fashioned look, no charging required) with several advantages of modern technology (pedometer, notifications, music controller ). It seemed to match the product description, but it's a mistake. Pros: * Nicely built. * Easily adjustable with watch tool kit. * Battery lasts 6 months (depending on usage), cheap replacement batteries seem easy to swap out. * Easy to match with IOS. * Notification controls and settings worked flawlessly. * Waterproof Cons: * "Notifications" are weird and inadequate. You assign one of 12-hour numbers to a contact (or multiple contacts). When that person (or one of several - since I assigned all my children to "12"), there is an almost imperceptible pulsating vibration of the watch, and the hands of the watch momentarily move to the 12 mark on the watch. . It doesn't last as long as they call and unless you noticed the watch vibrating or looked in time to catch the hands moving you wouldn't know they contacted you/or who contacted you . *The dial is too big and the watch itself is very heavy and thick for a women's watch. The attached photos show the Fossil watch next to my old ESQ and next to my dad's old watch to show the actual scale of the watch which is not clear from the product description. Other photos show the watch on my wrist. I have thin wrists and I knew I would have to fit each watch, but I didn't expect the dial to completely overshadow my wrist. * The pedometer feature is fine (displays 100 tiny digits on the left side of the watch), but unless you're constantly checking it, it's not worth being one of your preset buttons. I don't know what happens when you go over 100 steps. You'll need to use a phone app (IOS or Android) to access and set everything up, and your steps are there too. It connects to Google Fit and other health apps and claims to track your sleep, but I haven't cheated on them so I can't say how well they work. * 3 control buttons can only be used for one function at a time (e.g. top button: volume up; bottom button: volume down; middle button: pause / play / fast forward (double press) / rewind (long press). Or: top button : Calendar, Middle button: Music, Bottom button: Pedometer). *Missing "field" for the date; The clock hands move to one of the tiny 31 numbers to the right of the clock to show the day of the month, but only if you set one of the controls (via the app) to show the date. No box for pedometer. There is no box indicating that you should probably check your phone for messages. * The background colors and hour markers of these particular clocks are very similar. The background shimmers somehow. When the light hits a certain way, I can't read the watch at all. Despite all the downsides, I would still get them to work. I set everything up and adjusted to my wrist when I realized I had broken the terms of the deal: *Clock hands do not light up. Strange right? They really "look" like they're glowing. This fundamental feature has always been present on most watches. How smart is a clock if I can't see when the lights go out? The need to turn on the light or pick up the phone takes all sense out of the watch. The lack of this essential feature and the failure to state it in the product description was the last straw of the adage. ***UPDATE*** According to the answer below, the hands of the clock are lit. Only needs to be charged in light or sunshine. I will give them one more star since it had that feature; but I'm still glad I sent it back. *** Is it too much to ask that a hybrid retains the essential features and similar proportions of an analog watch while still offering a few easily accessible modern touches? I would be fine with a few extra buttons. A subtle flashing light letting me know I have a message/missed call/new email (remember Blackberry?). Special block with dual function to display pedometer/date. Such a bulky watch for so little functionality. So I bought a cheap jewelry tool kit and will put a new battery in my trusty 20 year old ESQ and keep looking. Do not buy this watch - *** changed to add if you like the look and sound of the watch then of course it's your choice.
