These bulbs are Energy Star certified, RoHS compliant and should last 'up to 9 years' of typical household use. It is believed that the long life compensates the high cost of these 'eco' lamps. Our 9 years turned into about a year in a newly installed fixture. I'm starting to think I want my old lightbulb back.
