I bought these to replace the emergency lighting in our office, mainly because the SLA batteries in the old emergency bulbs failed again after only 2-3 of the year. Buying brand new lights was a bit more expensive than just buying new batteries for our old emergency lights. They use rechargeable batteries like cordless phones, so they're much cheaper to replace and should last longer before needing to be replaced. They are bright enough for small spaces like small offices and hallways, but not quite bright enough for large areas or taller installations. Compared to older emergency bulbs, they flood more, so they don't spread the light as far. They have a sticker on the inside saying not to be used over 8ft and that's probably why. Overall, given their cost compared to changing batteries, they were a good choice. Another note from me, the box in the wall to mount in our building is a typical metal outlet and they don't have a hole pattern (like on a switch cover) to screw it on. I had to drill holes in the baseplate to install it as I didn't want to drill drywall and use wall anchors. Final note: one of the lights went out. It popped up randomly one afternoon and then stopped working (the red power light went off). We checked the wiring, so something must have gone wrong with the light. At this point they had been installed for about 2 months but I contacted the seller and they just sent us a new replacement and didn't want to return the original. Excellent customer service!
