Got this radio here in North Carolina a few days before the hurricane. I used it for several hours every day (at least 4). I still haven't had to change the 2 AA batteries I had installed when I got it (more than two weeks now). The volume is excellent. You can hear it very well at low to medium volume in a 30ft room with no issues. I use an antenna that extends about 19 inches and is very stable. It contains all the transmitters that I can connect to my car radio or my home stereo system. Some transmitters do not require an antenna. In general, a very good reception. I haven't heard anything on shortwave though. Maybe nobody is around this group. The AM band is also very clean and I get a good number of stations in the Raleigh, NC area. Great radio for talk shows as well as music. Update: Important! Several reviews claim that their radio was fine at first but later lost the station. Just change the batteries. Unlike some radios, this radio can have good volume when batteries are low, but lose stations and have some hiss when batteries are low. However, the batteries in this radio last a long time. Still a 5 star product.
